I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for presenting me the Region 20 School Nurse of the Year Award at our TSNO meeting on 10 May 2007. You presented the award to me at the Harleqin Dinner Theater at Fort Sam Houston prior to the play “The Supporting Cast”. As many of you know, I am rarely at a loss for words, however, with the large crowd, the festive atmosphere and no microphone, I was left speechless!
TSNO has provided me with lifelong friends and invaluable resources to guide my school nursing practice. I was told that it was a coincidence that the event happened to be held where I work at Fort Sam Houston. However, it is no coincidence that through our exceptional Regional TSNO leadership, that our local school health practices exemplify the professional standards of nursing. Or that together the TSNO membership forms our very own outstanding “Supporting Cast”.
Qualifying for this award has required me to look back at my 23 years of school nursing in four school districts and provide a written response on the professional standards of nursing. Through this process, it was obvious to me that it is organizations such as TSNO that have served as a “connector” for me. Through TSNO I have remained informed, energized and connected to a myriad of resources that have allowed me to express my commitment to promoting and improving the health and well being of the school community.

I hope that like me, you will be connected through your service to our organization and relationships here with other people that will encourage you on your path to coordinated school health and wellness. I am proud to represent you as Region 20, School Nurse of the Year and thank you for this great honor.
